Male costume: The Indian version consists of a single-piece unstitched dhoti, a long cloth wrapped around the waist with multiple folds and pleats. The upper body of the dancer is bare.

In the Mughal tradition, either a kurta-churidar or angarkha-churidar with a peaking head gear is worn. Just like their female counterparts, these costumes are also highly ornate and embellished, with myriad variants of sleeve, yoke and border patterns.
